Kate Heneghan
Kate Heneghan is a violinist, pianist and harpist from Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland. Kate graduated with a Master’s in Music Composition & Performance with distinction from Ulster University. In 2018, she completed her BA in Performing Arts (Irish Music) with first-class honours from the University of Limerick.
In 2023, Kate was selected as the Mayo Rose and proudly represented County Mayo at the internationally renowned annual Irish Rose of Tralee Festival.
Since her mid-teens, Kate has been in demand as a musician both nationally and internationally. Her collaborations have ranged from classical ensembles to folk groups, showcasing her remarkable versatility. Her performances have taken her across Europe, the USA, China, and Australia, gracing some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the National Centre for Performing Arts (Beijing), The Tempodrom (Berlin), Sydney Opera House, Café in the Crypt (London), Áras an Úachtaráin, The Helix, The 3Arena, The National Concert Hall, The Millennium Forum (Derry), and The Waterfront (Belfast).
Kate is a passionate and dedicated music teacher. She co-founded Westport Scoil Cheoil (www.westportscoilcheoil.com), now recognized as one of Ireland’s premier music summer schools. She teaches both Irish traditional and classical music, delivering weekly lessons onsite and online to students worldwide. Her teaching experience includes work with the Mayo School of Music, the Ulster School of Music, and several Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann branches. She is frequently invited to present workshops and lectures on traditional Irish music in prestigious institutions such as the University of Mozarteum (Salzburg), The International School Brussels, Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School USA, and Scoil Acla. Kate is also a published author of academic work on Irish music.
Kate is also an experienced and highly sought-after corporate and wedding musician, regularly performing at prestigious events across Ireland. She has frequently played at Áras an Úachtaráin for President Michael D. Higgins and other esteemed guests.
She is the recipient of the Music Generation / U2 ‘Exceptional Musician Award’ bursary, which she used to purchase her harp. She also received a scholarship from the University of Limerick to represent the Irish World Academy in the USA, and was awarded the Mícheál Ó hÉidhin Medal for receiving distinction in all four senior SCT music exams.
Most recently, Kate has relocated to Dubai, where she has continued her musical career with great success. She is quickly establishing herself as a prominent figure in the local music scene, performing at prestigious venues and events, and sharing Irish music and culture with a global audience in the UAE.
