Profile Picture - Simon Lam

Simon Lam was born in Hong Kong and he started his musical education at the age of four. In 2000 he moved to the UK and studied at Eastbourne College. He graduated with an honours degree at the University of Manchester in 2005 and continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music for a Master in piano performance. His teachers included Hazel Fanning and John Gough. He has a special interest in Alberto Ginastera - one of the greatest Argentinian composers in the twentieth-century. This led to a research project on the piano works of Ginastera which subsequently gained him a distinction in his dissertation.

Simon has over ten years of experience in teaching since joining CMA in 2007. He has prepared many students, from children to adults, for ABRSM piano and theory exams. He has also conducted many workshops on theory, aural and sight-reading technique.

Apart from teaching, Simon continues to perform, including recitals, chamber music and accompaniment both in Dubai and Hong Kong. He has also involved in many community projects and music workshop, including the Palestine Children Relief Fund in both UAE and Lebanon, and education projects in the West Bank.  In his spare time, Simon is a keen athlete and enjoys triathlon, scuba diving and taking part in competitions such as Iron Man.
