Roger Norkie

Profile Picture - Roger Norkie

Roger Norkie was born in South Africa and started violin and piano lessons from the age of 6. In 1992, he completed a Bachelor of Music degree at Rhodes University. He started his career as a Violin and Piano teacher at Kingswood College Music School, a position he held till 2000.

 

During his time in South Africa he performed regularly with both the Eastern Cape Philharmonic and Eastern Cape Chamber Orchestras. He did several tours of the country playing with the latter. 

 

Roger has completed an Honours degree in Chamber Music in 1997 whilst studying at the University of Stellenbosch where he had Violin lessons with the Violin Pedagogue, Jack De Wet.

 

In 2000, Roger moved to London, freelancing as a violinist and teaching Violin for several music services, in and around London. Roger has had a wealth of playing experience whilst in the U.K, performing with different orchestras and conductors, Sir Charles Mackerras, John Rutter and Ilan Volkov, to name a few. 

 

He became leader of the Thames Philharmonia Orchestra, a position he held for 3 years until he left the U.K in 2009.

 

Roger moved to Abu Dhabi in 2009 to work with Aldar Academies as a Violin and Piano teacher. He performs regularly with the Abu Dhabi based NSO Symphony Orchestra.
