Jack Hughes

Jack has lived in the UAE since September 2014, having moved from the UK shortly after graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a Bachelor’s degree in music.

Whilst at the college under a scholarship, Jack’s principal study was piano, with which he studied with Richard Ormrod. He also had the privilege to perform in Masterclasses held by such international artists as Federico Colli, Christian Blackshaw, Llyr Williams, Peter Hill, Simon Lepper, and Polina Leschenko.  Jack was also the runner-up in the Julian Jacobson Piano prize having performed Arnold Schoenberg’s Suite for Piano.

Chamber music has also been a important part of Jack’s musical education. Throughout his time at college he performed with the Woodford Piano trio with whom he won the 2012 Cardiff Violins Chamber Music prize. It was with this ensemble that he benefited from chamber coaching with ensembles including the Gould Piano trio, Barbican Piano trio, the Schubert Ensemble, as well as individual musicians such as Marcia Crayford, Guy Johnston and Rosie Biss.

Jack very much enjoys teaching the piano, and believes that regardless of ones ability, all students have the potential to create rewarding and musical experiences from the very first lesson onwards.

Jack also enjoys playing Classical Guitar, and in June 2015, after not have taken a guitar exam for 10 years, decided to sit the ABRSM Grade 8 examination recently for which he received a distinction
